The DataSmith Consulting Team

Marisa Smith, Partner, has more than twelve years of programming experience.  A native of Connecticut, she graduated from Colgate University in 1994, and went on to the University of Michigan to earn a Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration.

In 1995, Marisa accepted a position with the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department of the University of Michigan. Over the next six years, she gained extensive expertise in consulting on IRB and accreditation projects, database architecture, business process design, technical support, and web application development.

Marisa left the University in 2002 to establish DataSmith Consulting, LLC.

Dale Bengston, Partner, spent nearly twenty years in high-tech marketing, printing and publishing before the persistent lack of project and workflow management tools compelled him to start developing his own.

Dale left the corporate world in 2002 to focus full-time on building web-based tools to help people share information, manage projects, work more efficiently and communicate more effectively. Having grown up in and around Macintosh software development, his main focus is on user interface design and usability.

Dale holds Bachelor's Degrees in Journalism and History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Bonnie Valentine, Creative Business Lead, brings eleven years of IT experience to DataSmith Consulting. She has held a variety of positions in both high-tech and higher education environments, ranging from technical support to business and finance.

After serving as Project Coordinator on the University of Michigan's electronic IRB application project team, Bonnie returned to college in January, 2006, to complete her Bachelor's Degree. She is currently enrolled in a project management certification program in preparation for graduate work in a MBA degree program.

Chris Beecher, our new Senior Developer, comes to DataSmith Consulting from the University of Michigan, where he worked for 15 years as an IT professional in the Department of Research Development and Administration (DRDA).  Chris' experience with developing systems to support institutional research activities, coupled with a passion for innovation, makes him an ideal fit for our company.

Chris holds a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry which he received from Michigan State University in 1992.

Dale Bond has worked in a variety of higher education and business settings since 1971. He began his programming career in 1998, when he was asked to train for an IBM mainframe programmer position in the Medicare Systems Division of United HealthCare.

A graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College, Dale also holds Master's Degrees in Religion and Medical Ethics from Yale University.

Nicole Trinkle, our Office Assistant, graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a degree in marketing.

Before joining DataSmith Consulting in 2007, Nicole worked in the retail industry for six years. She also currently serves as an assistant to the department chair of the business school at a local community college.

Nicole enjoys creating processes that help organizations run at maximum efficiency, a skill that our team values highly.
